The students are made to participate in all kinds of activities for self-development into well-rounded professionals who will not only be academically and technically equipped, but also possess the necessary soft skills that will put them in good stead when they join the industry. Attending seminars and conferences, and making site visits are part of the learning experience in the programme. The students participate in the Annual RICS-ISM student conference. Organising products have been a staple activity of the students throughout the academic year. 'Teh tarik' talks are meant for students to acquire new knowledge beyond traditional quantity surveying from invited speakers. To draw a conclusion to their studies at USM, farewell dinners have become a tradition for final years students. Beginning 2015, a reception is held for graduating students during Convocation Week to celebrate their achievement. Organising overseas study trips has also become a staple activity for final years students. The 2014/2015 final year cohort went to Perth, Australia, while the current 2015/2016 cohort is preparing to visit Shanghai, China.
